Tony Wilson R.I.P.

Tony Wilson, legendary co-founder of Factory Records, has died at the age of 57. Other people can put this better than me, but a sad day, the loss of a true personality & innovator. Rest in peace.

Bill

Buy vinyl, get CD too!

So I picked up the new Interpol album Our Love To Admire on vinyl the other day from the good people at Slow Boat, and a very nice package it is – double 12″ in gatefold with inserts blah blah blah, BUT it also comes with a CD copy of the album which

  1. allows me to also listen to it at work
  2. means I don’t have to buy another copy (which surprisingly, has happened before!)
  3. means I don’t have to download a copy

A step on from some albums coming with free digital download. Not a new thing, I think Shellac did it a few years ago, but win/win all round & a very nice idea.

New Joy Division & new Mick Jones!

From the NME (http://www.nme.com/news/30194):

Joy Division‘s back catalogue is to be reissued with extra material to coincide with the release of ‘Control’, the biopic about their singer Ian Curtis.

Both the band’s studio albums, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ and ‘Closer’, and the live album ‘Still’ will be out on September 10 featuring additional CDs of live material.

The film, directed by the band’s old friend and collaborator Anton Corbijn, is due for release on October 5.

The extra CDS are as follows:

‘Unknown Pleasures’ extra CD:
Live At Factory Manchester and The Moonlight Club, West Hampstead

Closer extra CD:
Live at ULU

‘Still’ extra CD:
Live At High Wycombe

Tracklistings for the live album can be got here

And also from the NME today (http://www.nme.com/news/the-clash/30193), comes news of Clash/BAD guitarist etc Mick Jones‘ new band (along with ex-Chelsea/Generation X/Sigue Sigue Sputnik’s Tony James) Carbon/Silicon. The band will release album ‘The Last Post’ – on October 8.
